Most Popular Camping Grounds
When you want to enjoy a holiday in nature’s lap, camping is the ideal workout vacation you can have! North America never disappoints, and there are so many camping grounds locations in the wilderness. But if you want to plan for a totally perfect view when you wake up in the morning, then go for one of the ten most popular camping locations in North America that we have listed out for you!
1.
Camp lakefront, Ontario: paddlers come to base camp at Philip Edward Island. Camp lakefront is ideal for soaking in the water-view in a kayak (for about $50), or hauling your equipment in earnest for a well-guided paddler trip (max about $700), or fishing for pike or bass! Camp lakefront is a sheltered cove and at a location where the Fox Archipelago is quite easy to access. Philip Edward Island is 285 miles of driving away from Toronto, but you make sure you have a map!
2.
Allagash wilderness, Maine: sample heaven near the roaring Allagash falls. Under a fir cover, campers can pay and fish for salmon and trout at the brook, sit around a makeshift table, or get near the fire pit. Rent canoes for about $12, get to round Pond to sight a moose or two, or get below the Churchill dam for some wild canoeing. For $600, you can have a week-long trip with Allagash Guide Inc.
3.
Camp Riverine, Arizona: marble camp is the camp to be, whether you prefer the beach with white sands, or a small hike up to the Anasazi ruins. Rest on your back and look up at the canyon in peace. Campers love the Grand Canyon sunset view from their perch at a thousand year old granary in the cliff. The Grand Canyon Dories have grand seven-day plans for the campers, but you could go rafting if you can wait that long for a permit! For the archaeologically inclined, this place does have the setting.
4.
Camp vantage, Alaska: in the snow-free seasons, set up camp at the Wood River Mountains, enjoy the Wind River rapids, fish for take-away sockeye salmon at the generous Agulukpak River. For the $1500-dollar six day grand trip you would hear of, contact the Tikchik State Park Tours.
5.
Stafford beach, Georgia: Cumberland Island doesn’t seem like wilderness when you read about its popularity. But one look at the 18-mile beach and you are hooked! Find some interesting flora and fauna in wild splendor. Walk along the dunes amidst some cacti or find turtles resting along the beach. Paddlers can board the ferry from Crooked River State Park.
6.
High Point, New Jersey: trout at the Sawmill Lake, camp somewhere in the hardwoods at High point, visit the High Point monument; follow the Iris Trail or the Appalachian Trail. Look for eerie silence at New Jersey’s tallest peak if you are interested.
7.
Flat Tops, Colorado: look up at the summit of the Trappers Peak, or get to the Trappers Lake, Scotts Lake or the Amphitheater. Beautiful glacier crafted plateaus make for the ideal campsite. Just look around and find the landscape dotted with ponds amidst spruce firs and Tundra. Hike, get the permits and fish, or just enjoy an undisturbed nap, no one stopping you!
8.
Gooseberry falls, Minnesota: book in advance and find interesting campsites and restrooms amidst the wild evergreens north to Minneapolis. Enjoy kayaking and settle down at the campfire. Walk a mile and feel the spray from the icy-cool falls. Follow the Superior Hiking Trail, stop to fish and dive in for a swim in the lake. Pristine and legitimate fun for every camper at $20-30!
9.
Channel Islands, California: minutes away from bustling coast of south California, discover campsite on igneous rock. Move up and inwards from Landing Cove to find your campground and maroon yourself for some quiet at the East Anacapa Islet, enjoying to-die-for sunset at Inspiration Point. Kelp forests, sea caves, sea lions, rare pelicans, and exploring the Winfield Scott: temptation enough.
10.
Apua Point, Hawaii: a stone’s throw from the most active volcano, Kilauea, this primitive site near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a campers’ paradise and geology delight. The Pu'u Loa Trail, asphalt, pahoehoe lava and the ocean lure the camper into an adventure. Of course, wild kayaking and a nap with the turtles is a bonus!
